Rash('s) Luck
Raymond Sharp (aka Rash) spent the night working on a paper about ‘Leadership & Human Behaviour’. His eyes drooped and he badly needed sleep, more so because the next day he had to deliver a lecture on ‘Confidence is needed for success’ to middle school children at a local school. This didn’t excite Rash, it was just to please the school Principal with his presence after having received an uncomfortably pleading invitation from him.
With just an hour’s sleep the previous night, Rash was impassive to the morning’s proceedings in the school. He forced a sedate look, thanking the management for not having called him on the stage straightaway. He wanted to make a hackneyed speech. When he did get his chance, he began after a little introduction about himself “I, at first, wasn’t really confident about speaking in front of you all. But I’m supposed to speak about Confidence right, so, I just thought of it and boom, here I am.” “........all I believe is to get your confidence going and not any luck, superstitions and baseless beliefs. Goodluck to you all.”
“Thankgod it ended!”, he thought. At dusk, he went for a stroll in the park. Ark, his buddy, accompanied him and they spoke about the lecture in the morning. Rash spotted a young lady sitting on a bench reading Paul Coelho. He loved reading Philosophy and, as a reason to get to know the lady, he stepped forward and spoke to her. “That’s a great book. I have read it twice. So what do you do?”, he asked with a bit of hesitation, curious to know her. “I teach school children”, she replied.” Oh that’s great”, he said. “Time for some groceries. Nice meeting you.”, she said and turned to leave.“Nice meeting you too.” he replied. His heart felt bliss. And then he went blank, “Damn, she’s gone.”
“Oh damn, when will I see her again!” said Rash with a gush of emotion.
“You are just not so lucky dude”, Ark said with a grin.
“I guess it’s my black underwear”, quoted Rash despondently.
